Named after the Dutch word 'boulder' and also the Japanese 'square jewel' or 'blessing', the Kei table has a dramatic solid burr or burl oak top with a minimal angled base. The base was in inspired by a medieval Japanese tea ceremony as well as the angles found in Japanese characters. The waney edge or live edge table top was popularized by George Nakashima and more recently by Tim Stead. The natural edge of the table top shows the original shape of the burr / burl on side of the tree.
